Names in the News – Michigan Technological University releases fall dean’s list, graduates
HOUGHTON — Michigan Technological University in Houghton has released the dean’s list for the 2019 fall semester. More than 1,880 students were named to the list.
To be included, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
A pound sign indicates a student who earned university honors, finishing in the top 2% of their college. Asterisks indicate those earning straight-A averages of 4.0.

Local students were among more than 325 graduates honored at Michigan Technological University’s mid-year commencement Dec. 14 on the Houghton, campus.
Michigan Tech alumna Jennifer (Fuller) Julien delivered the commencement address. While educated as a civil and environmental engineer, Julien has transitioned into a successful entrepreneur, investing more than $25 million into the Houghton community with her husband, Jon.
The student speaker was Victoria Quinde Serrano. The native of Cuenca, Ecuador, was a three-time captain on Tech women’s tennis team and served as an assistant coach in the fall season.
