MSU Extension hosts annual 4-H banquet

NORWAY — Michigan State University Extension of Dickinson County recently hosted its annual 4-H Recognition Banquet at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway.

The banquet is an opportunity for members, volunteers and community supporters to be celebrated for their contribution to the Dickinson County 4-H program.

Among those awarded were several community youth members who have shown excellence in specific project areas. Seven $300 scholarships were given to 4-H graduating seniors Alexis Lusardi, Ashley Robertson, Caroline Taylor, Logan Smith, Megan Garvaglia, Nicholas Plaswirth and Raina Menghini. Thirty-one 4-H volunteers were recognized for their years of service with Dickinson County 4-H, ranging from a year with the program to 24 years.

Leader of the Year was presented to Amy Glasheen of the Big Shooters 4-H Club.

The Big Shooters 4-H Club, led by Jason Glasheen, walked away with the award for Club of the Year. The Friend of 4-H award was presented to Pat and Sally Scott for their encouragement, guidance and financial support given to the 4-H Big Shooter’s youth.

Amy Glasheen was selected as the 4-H Leader of the Year recipient.

In addition to the awards ceremony, dinner was provided by Bimbo’s Pizza and the 4-H Leader Council.

Entertainment included 4-H club presentations delivered by the Dickinson County 4-H youth.

Various local community businesses generously donated items or gift certificates to be given away at the event as door prizes, including Tadych’s Family Market, Protech Lube & Wash, Iron Mountain Automotive, Pizza Hut, Main Street Pizza, Tractor Supply, Greenway Books, B & B Tire and Auto, Jean Kay’s Pasties, Cutting Edge Beauty Salon, Norway Mercantile, Damian’s Pasta Works, Mike’s on Main, Econo Lodge and Suites, Recreation Lanes, Antonio’s, Sally Beauty Supply, Cost Cutters, Dairy Queen, Carlos Cantina, Moose Jackson Cafe, Smokler’s BBQ and Catering, Big 10 Sports Bar & Grill and Rainbow’s End Alpacas.

The 4-H acknowledges all the volunteers, youth and community partners for making 4-H programming a possibility in Dickinson County.
