AAUW seeking applications for scholarship

IRON MOUNTAIN — American Association of University Women Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch is accepting applications for its Non-Traditional Scholarship.

AAUW is an organization whose mission is to promote equality for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change.

In support of this mission, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW is offering the Non-Traditional Scholarship to local women who are 22 years of age or older that are pursuing a certificate program, an associate’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree program in the fall. The intent of this scholarship is to open or re-open the door for new or returning students who have been away from education for a period of time and have chosen to return to college to improve their employability skills. Past recipients of this scholarship may not reapply.

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded based on a variety of factors, including financial need, likelihood of success and a personal essay.

These items must be included with the application in order to be considered for the scholarship: a letter of school acceptance or copy of the fall schedule; and an essay.

Applications may be requested by contacting Beth Baker via e-mail at AAUWnontrad@gmail.com or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Beth Baker, N22169 County Road O, Niagara, WI 54151. Applications also may be downloaded at https://ironmountainkingsford-mi.aauw.net/branch-scholarship-information/

Only completed applications will be considered and should be submitted to the above address or scanned and emailed to AAUWnontrad@gmail.com. Applications must be received by Monday, April 27.

The scholarship winner will be contacted by the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Branch of AAUW and will invited to attend the group’s annual awards meeting, now tentatively scheduled for 6:45 p.m. May 26.

The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW organizes several community fundraisers throughout the year to provide this scholarship. AAUW is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that strives to promote gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
