Local MARSP chapter cancels in-person meetings

IRON MOUNTAIN — To protect member’s health, the local Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel has canceled all fall/winter meetings for the 2020-2021 MARSP year.

“We recently polled members who registered email addresses with us to see if there was any interest in having zoom meetings. Only a handful of responses said they were interested, not enough to warrant meetings online; however, should a pressing need arise, we will certainly consider scheduling one. As of now, we are planning to resume meetings with the April meeting, but that, of course, will depend on the situation,” said Carol Wirth, group spokesperson.

This does not mean MARSP is not active during this time. They still plan on the MARSP trip to the Fireside Dinner Theater production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Oct. 1. The price will be $140, which includes transportation, the show and a meal. For more information go to https://marsptours.webs.com or call 906-774-5753 or 906-779-9157.

“Even though we will not be having in-person meetings for a while, it is more important than ever to renew your membership if you have not already done so. Legislators will be looking for ways to balance Michigan’s budget, so it is important for us to have a lobbyist in place to protect our pensions. This means that large membership rolls are vital now more than ever,” she added.

Those who have not renewed their membership, can do so in the following ways:

Online, log in to member account at www.marsp.org and click “Renew your membership.” Members also can call 1-888-960-4022 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday.

The Dickinson Chapter of MARSP also has a website at https://dcmarsp.webs.com.
