Marinette County Fall Colors Driving Tour details outlined

AMBERG, Wis. — As the days get shorter and the nights turn cool, trees have begun their brilliant seasonal transformation to unique shades of red, yellow and orange.

To help residents and visitors enjoy the showcase of autumn’s finest shades, Marinette County Development and Tourism has introduced the Fall Colors Driving Tour. This self-guided driving tour includes stops at four Marinette County waterfalls and two scenic overlooks.

The Fall Colors Driving Tour begins at Dave’s Falls, just off Highway 141 near Amberg, heads west to Strong Falls inside Goodman Park and south down scenic Rustic Road 32 to McClintock Rapids.

The tour continues south to Thunder Mountain Overlook, where guests can hike the trails and take pictures with harvest décor arranged throughout the park.

The final stop on the tour is nearby Veterans Falls. In addition to the county parks, the 141 Overlook is included near the start of the route between Wausaukee and Amberg. Stops on the scenic 65-mile route provide visitors with the opportunity to hike trails, enjoy the waterfalls up close and explore the mature hardwood beauty of each park.

“Marinette County parks are fully open and the tour can be completed at any time, but we expect the best colors to occur between Sept. 26 to Nov. 1,” said Marinette County development and tourism director Jennifer Short. Historically, Marinette County fall colors peak in early-mid October.

“This is a great opportunity to enjoy life in The Real North and this is an ideal socially distanced activity,” Short added.

Fall Colors Driving Tour maps include route details, step-by-step directions and points of interest along the way, and are available online at www.TheRealNorth.com or The Real North (Marinette County) Facebook event.

In addition to the maps, orange maple leaf road signs will mark the route to help visitors find their way. There is no cost to participate, however a $5 park pass is required for entry.

Passes are available at any Marinette County park entrance and are valid for entrance to all county parks on the day of purchase.
