Fundraising for music scholarship

2 min read

Menominee -- The Menominee River Chorus recently partnered with the M&M Area Community Foundation to establish an endowed fund for the Bea Ennis Memorial Music Scholarship.

In fall 2001, the Menominee River Chorus started the Bea Ennis Music Scholarship to honor the longtime director and founding member. Poor health made it necessary for Ennis to retire in 2003 and she lost her battle with cancer in January 2006.

The scholarship then became a memorial music scholarship, keeping her memory alive and promoting her love of vocal music. By establishing an endowed fund at the Community Foundation, the chorus will be able to provide scholarships forever.

"We are proud of our local school music programs and are grateful to partner with the M&M Area Community Foundation to support students in the area. The foundation will increase the opportunity for students to apply for the scholarship program as it is now open to all graduating seniors at high schools throughout Marinette and Menominee counties," said Susan Thornton, president of the Menominee River Chorus.

The Menominee River Chorus relies on community donations, in addition to contributions from chorus members, to support this scholarship fund. Contributions may be mailed to the MMACF at 1110 10th Ave., Suite L-1, Menominee, MI 49858 or made online at mmacf.org. Scholarship applications will be available on the M&M Area Community Foundation website in March.
