Virtual fair on trade careers Friday

LANSING — Mackinac Economic Alliance and Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! is pairing up to host a virtual apprenticeship with the State of Michigan Labor and Employment Opportunity office.

The online fair, from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern time Friday, will offer high school students and residents looking for a career change in the Upper Peninsula the opportunity to learn about careers that don’t require a college degree. Booths included organizations such as Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, Michigan State /Police, Cloverland Electric, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 906, Upper Peninsula Construction Council, Operating Engineers Local 324, Boilermakers Local 169, Michigan Tech Tomorrow’s Talent, Jacobetti Complex at Northern Michigan University and more.

Earning a college degree is not for everyone. Trade careers provide practical and useful skills, incur less student loan debt and allow the person to earn experience and education. Plus, trades are always in demand.

With so many advantages, a trade career should be considered a more viable option in the professional world.

This event will be held online using the Brazen platform. To register online, go to http://bit.ly/uptrades.
