MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association presents the fifth installment of the U.P. Reader. This latest and biggest-ever edition of the annual anthology will feature the collected works of 32 authors in the U.P.

They will again include the four winners of the Dandelion Cottage Short Story Award in the publication with divisions for ninth through 12th grade. This award, created in 2017 by UPPAA member Larry Buege — author of the popular Chogan Native American series — showcases the best writing from young authors who are enrolled in U.P. primary and secondary public schools.

New this year will be an audiobook edition of U.P. Reader, narrated by Brandy Thomas of Marquette, that can be purchased from Audible.com or iTunes starting today. Paperback and hardcover editions already are available to local booksellers as well as contributors for sale and promotion.

Booksellers can order directly from Ingram or from Modern History Press. U.P. educators can contact UPPAA for a complimentary reading copy and a special discount for classroom purchases. Paperback, hardcover, and Kindle editions are readily available on Amazon. Also new is a special boxed set eBook edition that will allow readers to purchase the whole set of five volumes of U.P. Reader for the price of three, available today as well.

Submissions for U.P. Reader Volume 6 will also be open today and will be juried by an editorial panel. Authors chosen for this anthology will see their submission published along with an author’s bio to steer readers to more work by that author. Contributors need only have an active membership in UPPAA to be considered for publication.

Proceeds from the U.P. Reader will be used to support operating costs of the UPPAA and its many events to educate its members about writing and to support educational projects such as the Dandelion Cottage story contest that encourages young writers, but the main focus remains to get U.P. literature into the hands of readers.
