Kapp Honors Day 2021 at Alma College

ALMA, Mich. — More than 100 Alma College students participated in Alma College’s 25th annual Kapp Honors Day program.

This day provides a forum when traditional classes are canceled and students share their original research, creativity and talents with an audience of their peers.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic prevented students, faculty and staff from gathering in person, the students recorded video and made their presentations virtually during pre-scheduled sessions.

Local students with the titles of their presentations included:

— Senior Brooke Fornetti of Iron Mountain, majoring in psychology, presented “Contraceptive and COVID-19 Mask Use.”

— Senior Sarah Sherk of Kingsford, majoring in nursing, presented “The Effect of Sleep Quality on GPA.”

Both were also named to the dean’s list for the winter term. Students who achieve a 3.5 or better grade-point average during a term while carrying a minimum of 13 credits, at least eight of which are evaluative grades, are named to the dean’s list.

ALBION, Mich. — Albion College recognized recent graduates, recipients of academic awards and dean’s list and Albion College Fellow honorees.

Local students include:

— Eddie Cardew of Sagola was named to the dean’s list;

–Chloe Gabbert of Kingsford graduated with a degree in biology.

–Monique Hernandez of Iron Mountain was named to the dean’s list.

— Grace Lorenzoni of Iron Mountain was named to the dean’s list.

–Olivia Lorenzoni of Iron Mountain was named to the dean’s list.

–Lyndsey Moore of Kingsford graduated with a degree in biology and psychology with a concentration in neuroscience.

— Mackenzie Rundell of Kingsford was named to the dean’s list.

ESCANABA –Several area residents have successfully completed their requirements for a bachelor’s degree and graduated following the spring 2021 semester from Lake Superior State University.

Graduating with a bachelor of science in accounting was Brittany Kleiman of Wilson. Kleiman earned a CPA concentration.

Graduating with a bachelor of science in business administration was Brenden Gatien of Hermansville. He minored in marketing.

Graduating with a bachelor of science in criminal justice with a generalist concentration was Austin Gurgall of Hermansville. Gurgall graduated cum laude, earning a 3.50 to 3.69 cumulative grade-point average.

Graduating with a bachelor of science in early childhood education was Alicia Boussum of Crystal Falls. She also graduated with an associate degree in general studies with a behavioral science concentration.

RIPON, Wis. — Rebekah Kolenda, Class of 2021, from Iron River, joined the Ripon College Laurels honor society and the Sigma Tau Delta honor society during the 2021 Awards Convocation.

She is majoring in psychobiology. She is the daughter of Philip Kolenda of Caspian and Jeanna Kolenda of Iron River.

Ripon College also announced its dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester, recognizing academic excellence.

To qualify students must achieve a 3.40 grade-point average or higher on a 4.00 scale and complete at least 12 credits of regular letter-graded work.

Local students on the list include Rebekah Kolenda of Iron River, majoring in psychobiology, and Kaeley Miller of Norway, an undeclared major.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Lexi Maycunich of Niagara, Wis., was named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls

To be named to the dean’s list, a full-time undergraduate must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, or midway between an “A” and “B” average.

She is majoring in animal science.

DULUTH, Minn. — Kylie Butterfield of Iron Mountain and Mya Grubbs of Iron River were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at the College of St. Scholastica.

Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade-point average or above on a 4.0 scale.

WINONA, Minn. — Ethan Wilcox of Quinnesec was named to the second semester 2021 dean’s list at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

The list includes 438 undergraduate students who earned a grade-point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale.

He is the son of Christopher and Diane Wilcox.
