Sericati receives Beta Sigma’s Woman of Achievement Award

KINGSFORD — The Beta Sigma Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International honored Christine Sericati of Iron Mountain with the Chapter’s Woman of Achievement Award at its recent meeting in Rapid River.

This award recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to Beta Sigma Chapter. This well-deserved award celebrated her 43 years of dedicated, active membership in the Chapter.

She was presented with a certificate and a rose, along with an tribute of her exemplary service to Beta Sigma.

Sericati had also been previously honored as Beta Sigma Chapter’s Woman of Distinction in 2002.

She is an exemplary member of Beta Sigma Chapter and is a positive promoter of Delta Kappa Gamma International.

Sericati has served as chapter president twice, second vice president and is currently recording secretary. She actively serves on committees, which includes hostess, scholarship and grants, and music.

Sericati, a native of northern Minnesota, relocated to the Iron Mountain area after graduation from Northern Michigan University. She spent her entire 43-year teaching career at the Norway-Vulcan School District in Norway, having taught kindergarten, first, second and fourth grades. She is now retired.

She is married to Don Sericati and they have two sons, Anthony and Jonathan.

Sericati is active with the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, where she teaches Sunday School, helps with Kid Club and Vacation Bible School. She volunteered countless hours making pasties for the Masonic Temple.

She spends her leisure time golfing at Pine Grove Country Club, swimming at the Northern Lights YMCA, gardening, reading and sewing.

Beta Sigma also recognized member Darlene “Dolly” Salmi of Rapid River, with a rose and thanked her for her tremendous efforts as editor of the chapter’s award-winning newsletter, “The Blizzard.” She professionally creates and sends out editions of the newsletter to each chapter member four times each year.

Guest speaker Dr. Laura Coleman, president of Bay College, presented an informative and entertaining program at their meeting. She was so well received the group invited her back and asked her to consider membership in DKG.

DKG is an honorary international organization of woman educators that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Beta Sigma Chapter includes members from Michigan’s Dickinson, Delta, Menominee counties and Wisconsin’s Marinette, Oconto and Florence counties.
