Food boxes available Aug. 17 for seniors in Florence County

FLORENCE, Wis. — It can be a real challenge for seniors to continue to eat healthy as they age. Mobility issues, fixed incomes and medication changes all present barriers to eating healthy as you age.

To assist seniors in accessing quality nutrition sources, Feeding America of Northeast Wisconsin will be providing a limited number of food boxes for Florence County seniors ages 60 and older on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Feeding America has partnered with various local agencies including the Aging and Disability Resource Center, Human Services, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension to identify seniors in need and to help with distribution.

While those agencies are in contact with some seniors who are in need through programs such as energy assistance and home-delivered meals, they are certainly aware there are others in the county with whom they are not yet connected.

In order to increase the agencies’ reaches, anyone who is 60 years or older who would like to receive a food box should contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Florence County at 715-528-4890 or adrc@co.florence.wi.us.

They will gather customer names, addresses and phone numbers and discuss distribution options — some boxes can be delivered to customers directly, but they may also ask that customers go to a distribution site near their home to pick up the food box.

Starting at $3.50/week.
