IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson County Great Books Club will begin its 2021-2022 schedule of discussions at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the all-purpose room of the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
All meetings are planned on the second Monday of each month. All interested persons are invited to participate in any one or all of the discussions.
The book for this year is titled "Great Conversations 2." This collection of classic readings includes stories, poems, essays and a play. These selections have earned their reputation as classics because they address concerns of perennial importance to generations of readers.

-- Sept. 13: "Goblin Market," Christina Rossetti;
-- Oct. 11: "Physics and World Philosophy," Friedrich Hayek;
-- Nov. 8: "Planning and Democracy," Friedrich Hayek;
-- Dec. 13: "Distributive Justice," John Rawls;
-- Jan. 10: "Guests of the Nation," Frank O'Connor;
-- Feb. 14: "Which New Era Would That Be?" Nadine Gordimer;
-- March 14: "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love," Raymond Carver;
-- April 11: "The Playboy of the Western World," John Synge;
-- May 9: To be announced.
These readings are collected in a manual "Great Conversation 2," published by The Great Books Foundation. This anthology can be ordered online at greatbooks.org or by calling 1-800-222-5870. Attendees are asked to read the selections before if they wish to participate in the discussion.
