New quilt guild forms in Florence

JACKIE LEHTO WILL give a demonstration on making the Dresden Plate quilt block with a Sunflower wall hanging pattern at the newly formed Wild River Quilt Guild on Sept. 28 in Florence, Wis.

FLORENCE, Wis. — The newly formed Wild Rivers Quilt Guild would like to invite all area quilters and interested persons to join them for their first meeting Tuesday, Sept. 28, beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave., across from the BP Gas Station and Pat’s Foods at the west end of Florence.

The guild is made up of quilters who wish to learn about, preserve and encourage the art of quilt making; promote a gathering of like-minded folks in a fun and relaxed environment; and provide education and instruction for guild members and visitors on the history, design and techniques of quilt making.

Membership is open to all persons interested in quilting, high-school age and older. Annual dues, Sept. 1 to Aug. 31, are $25 per year, with a discounted rate for high school students of $15 per year.

Regular meetings will be on the fourth Tuesday of every month, except in November and December, from 5:30 to about 7 p.m at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

The meetings will consist of a variety of informative programs and sharing. Other activities may include day-long or weekend retreats, workshops, quilting workdays and charity efforts.

At the Sept. 28 meeting, the Wild Rivers Quilt Guild will introduce officers, accept new members, review the guild guidelines, elect one member at large to serve on the leadership committee and appoint a program committee.

They also will have a “show and tell” of quilts recently made by attendees, offer a time for attendees to ask for advice on problems or design help with quilts they may be working on.

They have a demonstration done by Jackie Lehto on how to make the very beautiful and relatively easy Dresden Plate quilt block. All attendees will receive a free pattern for the fun Dresden Sunflower wall hanging made with a Dresden Plate quilt block as shown here.

The Leadership Committee of Wild Rivers Quilt Guild is composed of President Lori Friberg, President-Elect Connie Onsager, Treasurer Cheryl Stromberg and Secretary Jackie Lehto.
