Senior Adult Day program Monday with Phyllis Carlson, Journey
Phyllis Carlson and Journey will be featured at a presentation Monday at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.
CRYSTAL FALLS — Senior Adult Day programs return to Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp after an 18-month pandemic pause. The first program Monday welcomes Phyllis Carlson and her partner Journey, a great horned owl.
A former 911 dispatcher, Carlson recently retired after more than 30 years as a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Carlson and Journey have presented educational programs about owls for schools and other interested groups for 20 years.
Carlson moved to the U.P. in 1973 from Virginia. She currently lives in Quinnesec with her husband, Walt, who shares her love of nature. In addition to her fondness for owls, Carlson enjoys photographing wildflowers, particularly native orchids and other threatened or endangered species.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with coffee fellowship in the camp dining hall. Weather permitting, part of the program will take place outside; masks will be required when indoors.
A $10 donation is requested for lunch. To make reservations, call the camp office at 906-214-2267 by Friday. Fortune Lake Camp is 3 miles west of Crystal Falls on U.S. 2.
