KINGSFORD -- To quote Winnie the Pooh, "It was a blustery day," as the Golden K seniors made their way to the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford on Monday morning.
Sue Proudfit wasted no time in bringing everyone to their feet. That was the signal for Alyce Derwinski to get the ivories warmed up and Bill Roberts stepped in with fine tuned directing abilities. The seniors were soon cranking out some great oldies.
Guests for the day were Richard Jouppi visiting from California, as well as local singing talents Crystal Hogan and Dawn Kranz. John Aune quickly pocketed the winnings from the 50-50 drawing as his wife Diane watched from a distance.
Gary Proudfit collected all the Happy Dollars. These went to wish happiness for traveling, visitors, and furnaces -- putting out much appreciated heat.
There were also wishes for good health and Wendy Mulka remembering her parents Joyce and Henry London. She envisions her dad singing with her on Monday mornings.
Gilbert Engel reminded those who are able to join fall road clean-up following the meeting. With all the business taken care of and the coffee was almost gone it was time to sit back and enjoy the program.
Crystal Hogan and Dawn Kranz graciously shared their musical talents with some very grateful seniors. Taking the "old folks" down memory lane from "Getting to Know You" to some music from the '60s and '70s.
John Denver "Leaving on a Jet Plane" started the journey with the Everly Brothers "Bye, Bye Love" and Creedence Clearwater Revival "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" jumping on board.
Elvis came along with "Don't Be Cruel," then a medley from Twilight "I can't Help Falling in Love with You" and "Sea of Love."
The journey came to an end with the Beatles "Love Me Do." All were grateful for the songs and memories performed by two also extremely talented retired music teachers.
Their generous gift of song and the road clean-up made it a perfect fall day.
Golden K meets Monday with guest speaker Lennie Walters bringing members up-to-date on the Pine Mountain Ski Jump renovation. Visitors are always welcome.
