Iron Mountain graduate honored by Motion Picture Sound Editors

LOS ANGELES –David Channing, an Iron Mountain native and 1975 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, was recognized during the 2022 Motion Picture Sound Editors Award Ceremony held in March.

Channing, who is also a two-time Grammy Award winner, was acknowledged by his contemporaries in the industry and presented with the Golden Reel Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing — Feature Film for his contribution as scoring editor in Producer/Director Steven Spielberg’s film, “West Side Story.”

The film received seven Academy Award nominations.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Award represents the work of the world’s most talented sound artists and their contributions to the past year’s most outstanding feature film, television animation, computer entertainment and student productions. A Golden Reel Award is acknowledged as one of the most prestigious and prized accolades in the sound editing world.

Channing’s career has spanned over 30 years in the music industry as an engineer/producer/composer/editor, contributing to numerous albums and film scores as both a technician and an artist. He is also a graduate of Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and is currently living in Ojai, Calif. He is best known for his work in the production of orchestral film music.
