KINGSFORD -- As strong breezes carried the Golden K into their weekly meeting, we are reminded of a quote by Thomas S. Monson "We can't direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails."

The meeting was opened by Sue Proudfit, with Alyce Derwinski on the piano. Rosalie Newlin was welcomed as a guest.

Paul Ward introduced the Kingsford High School Concert Chorale as the program for the day. Ben Sherk directed the chorale after providing a few of their highlights. Sherk had retired from the Kingsford music program but returned when a need arose for a director, and he did not want the program to end. The chorale was accompanied by pianist Amanda Herb.

The singers have recently competed in several events with the culmination of state competition this past weekend. They placed in several areas at these festivals. The chorale is made up of only one senior and the others are younger high schoolers who truly are committed to the group. Sherk added that there is a great potential for growth.

The play list for the presentation was chosen by the students and included an eclectic selection of songs, which included a song from the musical, "Hamilton." The blending of their voices delighted the Golden K.

When the music was over, students were treated to a beverage and donuts as a thank-you before they headed back to school.

Ben Determan was the happy recipient of the 50-50 drawing. Gary Proudfit read the Happy Dollar messages of Mother's Day celebrations and a welcome for the KHS Concert Chorale.

Paul Ward briefed Golden K members on the picnic Tuesday, May 31, for the special needs children. The picnic will be at City Park in Iron Mountain and all members are urged to help. Members are asked to arrive by 9 a.m. to assist with set-up.

The Golden K meets at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Everyone is welcome.

Next weeks program will be the Kingsford High School Jazz Band, conducted by Greg Hunt.
