Open house Thursday at former Marygrove Retreat Center in Garden

GARDEN -- If you have ever wondered what happened to the former Marygrove Retreat Center, now is the time to find out. The Airbnb-style hotel and retreat center opens its doors for tours and refreshments from 5 to 8 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday.

Once available only to faith-based organizations, Garden Grove Retreat is now open to the public for overnight lodging, destination weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, personal and private retreats, nature and recreational retreats, and faith-based retreats, along with painting, yoga, and other retreats.

The facility is available by individual unit, block of units, or by booking the entire facility for up to 72 overnight guests. The conference room accommodates groups of 10 to 120.

Outdoor events can accommodate up to 350 guests, with various areas making a perfect backdrop for special events, such as Mary's Grove or the Meditation Labyrinth. Trails wind throughout the 40-acre property making it the perfect nature-filled escape for any occasion.

Those who attend an get a glimpse of previously off-limits areas, such as the former priest's residence, now a three-bedroom, two-bath apartment available for rent by the night for groups of up to six people.

Discover a "secret" spiral staircase, pause to reflect in the peaceful chapel, and imagine hosting your event or retreat in the expansive conference room with a wood-beamed ceiling and cheerful stained-glass windows.

Attendees can register for a drawing for an overnight stay in the apartment. Close to Fayette, Kitch-iti-kipi, and Pictured Rocks, the retreat is a popular destination for tourists and retreats in the central Upper Peninsula.

The Garden Grove open house is part of the Garden Community Open House event, held each year to showcase this iconic village on the Garden Peninsula.

The Village Artisans and Garden Gallery will also feature tours, hors d'oeuvres, and a quilt raffle. Garden Mini-Mart, known for its quality meats, and Latulip Pottery & Tile Works will also be hosting the community during the event.
