Bay College West adds walking path south of Iron Mountain campus

A new walking path at Bay College West is on the southeast portion of the college’s campus at 2801 U.S. 2, Iron Mountain.

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Bay College West campus has added a new walking path on the southeast portion of the college’s property.

This trail will take advantage of the 15 acres of property to the south of the college with the intention of promoting exercise and wellness, as well as an opportunity for outdoor learning.

“We hope these trails will not only serve our students and employees but the surrounding businesses and community,” said Pat Bazan, building maintenance manager at the West campus.

The goal is to connect people to a natural environment by creating a set of trails that respectfully navigate the wetland area and allow people to explore and learn. The wetlands that surround the college campus draw in a variety of birds, amphibians and mammals.

Bay College will seek to partner with local industry, non-profits and kindergarten through 12th-grade schools to maintain the trail through volunteerism and service learning.

The trail will be available for snowshoeing this December and by the end of summer 2023 the walking portion will have rock on the path, signage, bridges and boardwalks completed.
