Aliyah Garvaglia, left, receives a $400 scholarship from Debra Pajula, co-president of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

KINGSFORD — The Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma annually awards a scholarship to a female student pursuing a degree in education.

It is given in recognition of academic leadership, extracurricular achievements, a passion for personal learning as well as a desire to help others learn.

This year’s recipient of $400 is Aliyah Garvaglia of Kingsford High School. She is the daughter of Jessica and Robert Garvaglia of Quinnesec. She will be continuing her education at Northern Michigan University, where she plans to major in secondary education with an emphasis on history.

“I chose education as my field of study because I want to give other children the confidence and tools they need to become the best versions of themselves. I have seen firsthand how impactful a teacher can be to her students and I want to have that impact on others,” she stated in her essay.

Starting at $3.50/week.
