KINGSFORD -- It was a beautiful sunny day as Golden K members gathered for their weekly meeting on Monday. Members were smiling and full of conversation as they greeted each other. Everything is fine when there is sunshine.
Sharon Sholke kicked off the meeting and Al Calcari led the singing. Alyce Derwinski delighted the group as she accompanied them on the piano.
Birthdays for this week include Dan Pedo, Ellen Roberts, Rose Pedo, Sue Benzing and Sharon Sholke. Anniversary wishes go out to Paul and Lorraine Jacobs.
Members were reminded of the Peanut Sales on Friday, Sept. 2. Volunteers are still needed to sign up.
Diane Aune was the lucky winner of the 50-50 raffle. Happy Dollar messages were read by Gary Proudfit. Members were happy to have Myrna Ward join them today, as well as their guest musicians. The Gospodaricks had a wonderful sunny week in Door County and Mary Jane Nelson was happy to have her son, Scott, here. The Uhazies live streamed the Aspen, Colorado Music Festival that their grandson participated in as a member of the choral group. Judy Sielaff was thanked for helping write the articles.
The Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency ice cream social will be held on Aug. 24 at the Ice Cream Station in Iron Mountain. Members are invited to attend.
Mary Jane Nelson has resigned from the board and Judy Sielaff has agreed to take her position. Thought for the day was read by Sharon Sholke. "Age is inevitable, but growing old is optional."
Sholke then introduced the musical duo of Crystal Hogan and Dawn Kranz. They entertained the seniors with music from the '60s and '70s by singing and playing their guitars. Their harmonies were enjoyed by all.
Hogan and Kranz have been pleasing audiences for more than four years. They have played at several venues including Pleasant View Orchards, Cedars Edge Wine and Gifts, and Art for All. Their musical selections consist of songs sung by Paul Simon, The Mamas and the Papas, Otis Redding, Bread, and many more. They concluded their performance by singing Louis Armstrong's famed "Wonderful World."
Next week's program will be presented by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress's Cheryl Goc. She will inform members of their eligible benefits.
Golden K meets at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Guests are always welcome.
