NORWAY — The local travel group, On the Road Again, has returned from an amazing tour of the most beautiful locations of the world. From seafaring histories to fantastic fjords, there is a lot to love about Scandinavia.
A group favorite included the Norwegian fjord country and Talinn, Estonia.
They marveled at Norway’s amazing green cliffs and blue water and set sail from Oslo to Denmark’s waterside capital, Copenhagen. Members visited the Nordic capitals of Stockholm and Helsinki and explored their maritime pasts and modern architecture.
According to group coordinator, Susan Wilson, the train ride on the Flam Railway was the highlight of the tour. She noted that the Flam Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey features a myriad of waterfalls and the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway.
After visiting the capital cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, and Helsinki, the group’s last day was spent in Tallinn, an absolute jewel in the Baltics. Talinn retains its walled, cobblestoned Old Town, home to cafes and shops, as well as Kiek in de Kok, a 15th century defensive tower. Its Gothic Town Hall, built in the 13th century and with a 64m-high tower, sits in historic Talinn’s main square. St. Nicholas Church is a 13th-century landmark exhibiting ecclesiastical art.

Talinn was a wonderful way to end this trip, and besides the picturesque photo shots, the group enjoyed good lunches, great shopping, and terrific ice cream, adds Wilson.
Wilson took her granddaughter, Sammie, on this tour. It has been Wilson’s joy to take each one of her grandchildren on a trip to introduce them to international travel, to show them other cultures, to develop empathy for other people, and to spend time with them on a trip of their choice. Sammie chose Scandinavia because of family genealogy. So far, eight grandchildren have ventured out to Ireland, Scotland and England, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, Barcelona, the French Coast, and the Italian Riviera, London, Paris, and Rome, Greece, and Scandinavia. One more grandson remains — who which country is next?
