Quilt event in Florence
FLORENCE, Wis. — Wild Rivers Quilt Guild in Florence, Wis., will host comedian/singer Mary Miller on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Encore on Central in Florence. The evening will start with a small quilt show beginning at 5:45 p.m. and Miller’s performance at 6:30 p.m.
A cash bar will be available for the evening’s celebration/festivities. The $20 tickets are sold only in advance and may be purchased at Great North Bank in Aurora, Wis., and Florence; 906 Quilting and Bijou Lovely in Iron Mountain; the Ben Franklin store in Crystal Falls; and Jeri’s Quilt Patch in Norway.
“Mary will have you laughing and singing along as she shares songs and stories of quilting and life, including retro tunes and parodies that will transport you back to a time when life was more carefree and will leave you feeling groovy long after the show,” club member Jackie Lehto said.
As a speaker, Miller combines her standup and improv comedy background with music and an inspirational message about overcoming life’s challenges. Over the years, she has shared the comedy stage with Tim Allen, Bill Engvall, Brad Garrett, Victoria Jackson, Kevin James and many more.
“We promise a lovely evening as we celebrate our first year of success as a guild with Mary Miller,” Lehto said.
The club, which started with four women at a dining room table, now has grown to 44 amazing quilting members. They hosted seven talented and knowledgeable presenters who each taught different aspects of quilting and many of them conducted a follow-up workshop in which they made something wonderfully quilty.
In the year since inception, the group made and delivered 46 twin-sized quilts to The Mission at Gaastra as well as quilts to send to the Ukrainian refugees. The group also hosted several “open sews,” where they worked on personal and group projects.
“Most of all, we celebrate the art of quilting and the camaraderie of fellow quilters,” Lehto said.
Wild Rivers Quilt Guild welcomes new members and visitors at all their meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month — except November and December — at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave. in Florence.
