Carmelite Silver Tea set for this weekend
The Carmelite Silver Tea is slated from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Iron Mountain. Here, organizers display a large variety of themed raffle baskets for this year’s fundraiser — from left are co-chairs Lisa Skowronski of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Pam Weinfurter, Barbara Hartwell and Joanie Richtig of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish. Not shown are Celine Gayan and Bill Bond of St. Mary and St Joseph.
IRON MOUNTAIN — The annual Carmelite Silver Tea is planned from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Monastery of the Holy Cross, at the U.S. 2 and M-95 junction in Iron Mountain.
The Silver Tea, which will be hosted by St. Mary and St. Joseph and Immaculate Conception Catholic Parishes in Iron Mountain, is the only annual fundraiser for the monastery.
The parishes organized an event that will be filled with raffles, prizes, handcrafted items, baked goods and the sister’s famous homemade bread. Sandwiches and tea will be served.
The public is welcome and winners of raffles need not be present to win.
All proceeds from the Silver Tea assist in sustaining the sisters with their basic needs throughout the year.
The Monastery of the Holy Cross is the home of Discalced Carmelite Nuns. A Carmelite’s life consists of love, prayer and sacrifice, and is lived in the spirit of great simplicity and joy.
The sisters spend their days praying for all the souls of the world, and the community is fortunate to have them within the area.
