DACF grant applications due by Oct. 21

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Area Community Foundation and its two affiliates, the Crystal Falls Area Community Foundation and the Norway Area Community Foundation, will be paying out up to $559,690 in grants and scholarships for 2023.

Up to $262,455 in scholarships will be awarded in 2023 through these schools: Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, North Dickinson County and Crystal Falls, plus Niagara, Florence County and Pembine high schools in Wisconsin. Graduating seniors should check with their scholarship coordinator for the applications and criteria for the DACF scholarships offered at their school. Applications and criteria will be available on the DACF website starting in January.

Agency and field of interest grants in the amount of $304,171 will be paid out in 2023. Grant application forms for field of interest grants are now available on DACF’s website at www.dickinsonareacf.org. Those interested in applying for any of the grant funds listed here can contact the Dickinson Area Community Foundation office at 906-774-3131 for more information or to request the appropriate application forms and instructions.

Deadline for application submission to the Foundation is Oct. 21. Grant funds will be awarded in the first quarter of 2023.

Field of interest program grants will receive $44,054 during the 2023 grant cycle. Grants are available from the following funds to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and agencies or organizations that are affiliated with non-taxable organizations (i.e. schools, churches, cities) located in or servicing people in the Dickinson County area and surrounding Michigan and Wisconsin areas:

­– Civic Improvement Fund has $3,784 available for collaborative project(s) to benefit or serve the Iron Mountain, Kingsford, and Breitung Township communities. The grant committee includes a representative from each community.

— Community Health Fund has $4,328 available for grants for youth and senior health-related programs (i.e., programs designed to reduce behavioral risk factors, such as substance abuse, alcohol/binge drinking, smoking, and depression; and to encourage healthy activities).

— The Environmental Fund has $2,270 available for projects that improve or create methods of enhancing natural resources in the region.

— The Fine Arts Fund has $2,440 for projects in the area of theatrical, musical and performing arts.

— The Health Care Fund has $2,193 available for grants for those involved in prevention, primary physical health care, educational and other health related services.

— The Homeless Prevention Fund has $3,003 for programs that provide assistance to people in need to prevent loss of homes.

— The Hunger Fund has $2,400 for organizations that provide food to people in need.

— The Iron Mountain/Kingsford Kellogg Youth Fund has $23,636 available for grants to applicants from the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Area by the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Youth Advisory Committee for youth-related programs.

The Norway Area Community Foundation and the Crystal Falls Community Foundation will be funding an additional $23,641 in field of interest grants for 2023. Non-profit organizations and agencies in the Norway and Crystal Falls communities may apply for grants in these fields of interest:

— Norway Affiliate Fund has $3,603 available for grants for programs in the Norway community area.

— The Norway Kellogg Youth Fund has $3,340 for applicants from the Norway area by the Norway Youth Advisory Committee for youth-related programs.

— The Forest Park Youth Fund has $15,654 in funds available for granting by the Forest Park Youth Advisory Committee for youth-related programs in the Crystal Falls area.

— The Crystal Falls Community Project Fund has $1,044 for community projects in the Crystal Falls area.

There is $226,175 in grant funds to be paid out to these Dickinson area non-profit agencies: Adult Basic Education, Almost Home Animal Shelter, Bay Cliff Health Camp, Crystal Lake Senior Center, Dickinson County Bike Path (DTN), Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet, Dickinson Conservation District, Northern Lights YMCA, Menominee Range Historical Foundation, Northwoods Air Lifeline, Friends of the Braumart, Friends of Camp Batawagama, NorthPointe, Light at the Inn, Champion Romney (Dickinson-Iron Community Services Agency), Dickinson County Hospital Administration Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Benevolent Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Community Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Capital Fund, Dickinson County Hospital Newberg Living Endowment Fund, Visual Arts Fund (Association of Student Artists), DACF Administrative Fund, DACF Unrestricted Fund and the Salvation Army that have established agency funds with the foundation.

In addition, $3,364 in agency grant funds will be paid out to these Crystal Falls area non-profit agencies that have established agency funds with the foundation: Harbour House (Crystal Falls Koob Historic Fund) and the Contemporary Center (Crystal Falls Koob Youth Fund).

Earnings from the individual organizations’ agency funds are disbursed annually to the designated agency or organization, in accordance with the Dickinson Area Community Foundation spending policy.
