Dickinson MARSP to offer candidate forum on Oct. 20

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel will meet on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

The program will consist of a candidate forum moderated by Randy Van Gasse, Dickinson County Legislative Ambassador and member of the State MARSP Legislative Board.

Candidates for the position of state representative of Michigan’s 109th and 110th districts, as well as the state senate, have been invited to the forum. In addition, candidates for the position of governor have been invited to send a representative. Jenn Hill, Ed McBroom and Greg Markkanen are among the candidates who have committed.

MARSP members are encouraged to bring questions they want answered by the candidates running for the offices that will influence the future of pensions and insurance coverage.

A social hour, with coffee provided, will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a noon luncheon. A cash bar will also be available. The noon luncheon will feature spaghetti and meatballs, a house salad, and garlic bread for $18. A chef salad for $14 is available on request when making reservations online or when contacted by the calling committee. No alterations may be made to either selection. A dessert will also be provided.

The calling committee will begin contacting members Sunday. Those not contacted by noon Thursday should email MARSP at dcmarsp@gmail.com or call Pam Trask at 906-779-9157 to make a reservation. The deadline to add or cancel reservations is noon Friday, Oct.14.

Members who requested online reservations will be contacted by email that same week. Those who made reservations online will receive a verification email. If no confirmation is received for the reservation by email, resend the request. As with those making reservations through callers, the deadline to add or cancel a reservation is noon Friday, Oct. 14.

Members are asked to bring canned goods — four of each kind — to be donated to the four area food pantries that the group supports.

This meeting is solely for MARSP members and their spouses, but they welcome any retiree from the Michigan public school system who is interested in joining MARSP or renewing their membership. Legislative updates that affect public school retirees in Michigan are one of the many advantages of being a member of MARSP.

For more information about membership in MARSP, contact Kris Bal at 906-282-0300, or go online to www.dcmarsp.webs.com.
