Library book sale starts
IRON MOUNTAIN –Dickinson County Library events for October include:
–Fantastic deals can be found on books, audiobooks, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines and more at the semi-annual Friends of the Library Book Sale from Friday through Oct. 31 during library hours at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. The event kicks off with a preview sale open to Friends of the Library members only from 5 to 6 p.m. today, followed by a Friends of the Library meeting at 6:30 p.m. New members are encouraged to join at the door for $5.
–There Was an Old Lady Storytimes: Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Thursday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the library in Iron Mountain; Friday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.
These storytime sessions for children through age 5 feature stories, songs and crafts to build early literacy. Each week is based on a book from the series “There Was an Old Lady.” Books from this series that will be featured include, “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves” and “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat.” No registration is required for these programs.
–Exploring Ancient Egypt: The Tomb of Doom: Friday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Kids in third through eighth grades are invited to walk like an Egyptian at this program that will recreate what life was like in ancient Egypt. Crafts and activities at this program include making pharaoh headdresses, writing out messages in hieroglyphs, building pyramids, and wrapping up mummies. Registration is required and begins Friday; call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain to register.
