Numerous October events, activities planned at the Crystal Falls District Community Library

THE BOOK “Great Lakes Monsters and Mysteries” will be presented via Zoom on Thursday at the Crystal Falls Community Library.

CRYSTAL FALLS — The Crystal Falls District Community Library will have these activities in October:

— The Library Club, for grades third through fifth, meets at 3:15 p.m. every Wednesday.

For the month of October, they will have “Creepy Crawlers Club,” where they will read monster stories each week and do monster crafts. Refreshments will be served.

— Adult Book Club will have its organizational meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday. They will take reading suggestions for the year. All adults are welcome. Those who can’t attend but still want to join can email Evelyn Gathu at egathu@crystalfallslibrary.org.

— Monday, Oct. 10, 3:30 p.m., Fire Prevention Week Story Hour. Children will hear stories, enjoy refreshments and make a firefighter craft.

— U.P. Notable Books Book Club meets via Zoom at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. The book to be discussed is “Great Lakes Monsters and Mysteries.” Authors Tim Ellis and Brad Blair will meet with the group via Zoom. Participants can go to the library website for the Zoom link.

— Thursday, Oct. 13, 3:30 p.m., Global Explorer Story Hour on Arizona and the Grand Canyon National Park. Children will hear stories, enjoy refreshments, and make their own fossils.

— Monday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m., Joshua C. Chadd, author of “The Brother’s Creed Series,” will give a presentation about his books. He will have books for sale that he will autograph after his talk. Refreshments will be served.

–Thursday, Oct. 20, 6 p.m., Mylynn Trulock from the Medical Care Access Coalition will give a presentation on how her organization can help people apply for Medicaid, get prescription assistance, and free Medicare counseling. There will also be a question and answer period.

— Monday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m., Elizabeth Rice and Pat Commins will have an author chat and book signing for their book “Irish Immigrants in Michigan.” Rice lives downstate, and Commins will be traveling from Dublin, Ireland, to appear at the library. Refreshments will be served.

— Monday, Oct. 24, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Friends of the Library will meet.

New members are always welcome.

— Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m., Ryan O’Grady, financial advisor from the Edward Jones Crystal Falls office, will host a seminar titled “Standing Guard: Protect What You’ve Worked For.” He will share strategies to help people guard their valuable assets and protect their pre-and post-retirement income. He will also address how to create a foundation against unexpected events along with how to prepare for health care and long-term medical costs.

— Saturday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m., Halloween Story Hour. There will be Halloween stories, treats, and make mummies out of recycled toilet tubes. Later in the afternoon, the Friends of the Library will pass out Halloween books during the Business Association Annual Candy Bash.
