Registration needed for ancient Egypt event

IRON MOUNTAIN –Dickinson County Library events for the rest of October include:

–There Was an Old Lady Storytimes: Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; Tuesday, Oct. 25, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Friday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

These storytime sessions for children through age 5 feature stories, songs, and crafts to build early literacy. Each week is based on a book from the series “There Was an Old Lady.” Books from this series that will be featured include, “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves” and “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat.” There is no registration required for these programs.

–Fantastic deals can be found on books, audiobooks, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines, and more at the semi-annual Friends of the Library Book Sale through Oct. 31 during library hours at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

–Exploring Ancient Egypt: The Tomb of Doom: Friday, 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in third through eighth grades are invited to walk like an Egyptian at this program that will recreate what life was like in ancient Egypt. Crafts and activities at this program include making pharaoh headdresses, writing out messages in hieroglyphs, building pyramids, and wrapping up mummies. Registration is required; call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain to register.

–Gamers’ Club: Monday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

At this month’s session, the library will have an Xbox and Nintendo Switch set up to allow extra gaming time. At the end of the meeting, the club will determine the ultimate gaming device — whether the Xbox or the Switch has the better gaming system. There is no registration required for this program.

–Book Club: Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; and Thursday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch.

Adults are invited to discuss the October Book Club selection, “The Overstory” by Richard Powers. No registration is required and new members are always welcome.

–Shh…Out! Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Ages 16 to 18 are invited to join in the first Shh…Out! meeting. This program is for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to meet in a safe space. The first meeting will have pizza and discuss what the group would like to do at future meetings. No registration is required. Pizza provided by the Friends of the Library.

–Ghoulie Glowing Golfing: Saturday, Oct. 29, noon to 3 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Visit during the downtown Iron Mountain Pumpkin Walk for glow-in-the-dark mini-golf and Halloween-themed crafts galore. Kids of all ages are invited to participate; registration is required and will open Saturday. Call 906-774-1218 to register.

–Creepy Critters Kits: Monday, Oct. 31, during Trick-or-Treat Hours.
