Dickinson library lists upcoming events
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library has announced its upcoming events for November.
Programs include:
— Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin Kits: Available at all branches starting on Monday. Adults and teens will use embroidery hoops, fabrics, and other materials to design their own festive pumpkins to celebrate fall. These are available at all three locations while supplies last. Limit one kit per household.
— Teen Subscription Boxes available for pickup Monday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. This month’s theme is Contemporary/Family Fiction and includes a library book, treats, some other fun items, and a book review form. Both the library book and the box must be returned, but participants may keep all other items. This is currently limited to the first four teen registrants each month. Stop in at any library to fill out a registration form in person. A new registration form must be filled out each month to receive the next subscription box.
— Bow Wows and Books: Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Kids of all ages working on their reading skills are welcome to read to therapy dogs Azul, Maverick and Diogge for 15-minute intervals. Registration is required; call the library at 906-774-1218 to register.
— Make Your Mark: Calligraphy with Chelsea Lillge: Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Local artist Lillge will teach attendees how to letter beautifully for invitations, envelopes, gift tags, scrapbooking and much more. This program is for adults and teens and is limited to 20 participants. Registration is required; call the library at 906-774-1218 to register.
— Ultimate Pokemon Trainer: Can You Catch Them All? Saturday, Nov. 12, at noon at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Are you the ultimate Pokemon Trainer? Kids in third through eighth grades will work on their trainer skills through puzzles, games and activities throughout the library. This program is perfect for kids who love puzzles or are huge fans of Pokemon. Registration is required and begins today; call 906-774-1218 to register.
— The Jelly Donut Difference: A Dozen Ways to Be Kind: Monday, Nov. 14, 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Kids in kindergarten through second grade are invited to celebrate World Kindness Day at this fun program encouraging kindness through activities, crafts and reading “The Jelly Donut Difference” by Maria Dismondy. Jelly donuts and juice will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Registration is required and begins Monday.
— Book Club: Thursday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; and Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Adults are invited to discuss the November Book Club selection, “More Than You Think You Know” by Cyndi Perkins, an Upper Peninsula-based author. New members are welcome.
— Write On! Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Adults and teens are invited to join this new writers’ group that will focus on providing an encouraging and supportive space for all styles of writers. Attendees will be able to make connections, get feedback on current projects, share ideas, learn new tips and tricks and simply enjoy writing. Snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
— The Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and Solomonson Library in Norway will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, and all sites will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume at the Iron Mountain and Solomonson sites on Friday, Nov. 25. Regular hours at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township will resume Monday, Nov. 25.
— Gamers’ Club: Monday, Nov. 28, at 4 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Kids in third through eighth grades are invited to play miscellaneous games on the Xbox and Gamecube during this month’s session. There will also be a selection of board games to play while waiting for a turn on the gaming consoles.
— Shh…Out! Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Ages 16 to 18 are invited to join for a night of “Dance, Dance Revolution,” “Just Dance” and other Wii games. This program is a safe space for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to hang out and just be themselves. No registration is required, and snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
