Library events listed for December

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library has announced its programs for December.

Activities include:

— Registration is open until Monday for the Teen Subscription Boxes available for pickup at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. This month’s theme is “Fantasy” and includes a library book, treats, other fun items, and a book review form. Both the library book and the box must be returned, but participants may keep all other items. This is currently limited to the first four teens each month. Stop in at any library site to fill out a registration form. A new registration form must be filled out each month to receive the next subscription box.

— Christmas Tree Sensory Bags: Thursday through Monday, Dec. 26, during library hours at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers can inquire at the circulation desk to borrow a Christmas Tree Sensory Bag that will build fine motor skills and encourage early literacy. Parents and caregivers must supervise children while using the sensory bag.

— Qigong/Tai Chi Class with Irina Tarbeeva: Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Instructor Irina Tarbeeva will lead participants through self-healing and wellness activities using qigong and tai chi exercises. This class is for beginner or intermediate levels of adults and is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration is required by calling the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218.

— All Aboard! An Interactive Family Movie Night: Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Put on your pajamas and join the fun, interactive family movie night. Each family will receive a kit with a script, outlining when to enjoy the yummy and delightful treats provided throughout the movie. This program is for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and accompanying adults, is limited to 20 families and requires registration by calling the library in Iron Mountain.

— Lego Club: Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Thursday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; and Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 3:15 p.m. at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

Get into the holiday spirit at this month’s Lego Club. Kids in third through eighth grades will be challenged to build a replica of something they would like to give or receive as a present this holiday season. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to join in the North Dickinson Branch session. No registration is required.

— Christmas Walk: Friday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Ring in the holiday season at the Dickinson County Library as part of Downtown Iron Mountain’s Christmas Walk. Warm up with some hot cocoa and cookies provided by the Friends of the Library and participate in crafts and games for all ages. Make sure to check out the other holiday festivities downtown, including: the library’s story stroll, vote on the decorated windows, go to the Bishop Baraga’s Live Nativity scene on the downtown stage, and more. Registration is required to visit Santa and begins on Friday; call the library in Iron Mountain to sign up.

— From the Hive to the Candle: Saturday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Bernie Driggs and Penny Bowser of the Northwoods Beekeepers will present an interactive workshop on using beeswax to create un“bee”lievable gifts this holiday season, including candles, soaps, salves and more. This program is for adults and teens and required registration; call the Iron Mountain library.
