Native American dolls focus of Doll Club meeting

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. — The Enchanted Doll Club of the Northwoods will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kalmar Senior Center, Highway 45 N in Eagle River.

The theme of the November meeting will be “Skookum” and other Native American dolls. Members and guests are encouraged to bring along any Indian or “Skookum” dolls, antique or modern.

Club members will share information about all dolls brought to the meeting.

“Skookum” Indian dolls were first created by Mary McAboy around 1913. They were produced for decades as souvenirs that retailers sold around many parts of the country, including here in Wisconsin.

These realistic Native American dolls were costumed to represent many different tribes, including the Chippewa.

The public and new members are always welcome to attend club meetings.

For more information about the meeting or about the doll club, contact Judy Wainwright at 715-482-9804 or Sally Young at 715-356-9399 or 715-892-4599.

Starting at $3.50/week.
