Mansfield Pioneer Church service planned on Dec. 13

MANSFIELD -- The oil lamps and luminaries will shine brightly on Tuesday, Dec. 13, as the Mansfield Pioneer Church hosts its annual Christmas celebration. The service starts at 6:30 p.m. Central time.
For almost 40 years this caroling service has provided a look back at how Christmas would have been celebrated in the pioneer days of the small mining and logging community of Mansfield.
It is reminiscent of the faith of the early immigrant settlers to the area. The little log church was restored to be very similar to the one and only church that Mansfield ever had. The old pump organ accompanies the voices who attend, much as it would have done in the 1800s. Pastor Steve Rhoades will officiate the evening service and all are invited to attend. Lunch and fellowship will conclude the evening.
There is never an admission fee to the church, but a free-will offering will be taken to assist with expenses. Donations can also be mailed to treasurer Sharon Nickels, 257 Wright Road, Crystal Falls MI 49920. Mansfield Memories is a 501(c)(3) organization and receipts will be sent to all donors.
Directions to the church: drive about 7 miles west of Sagola and take a right onto Mansfield Cutoff Road. This road is 5 miles east of Crystal Falls, off of Highway M-69.
Follow the cutoff road for 4 miles and turn onto Stream Road before the Michigamme River bridge. The church can be seen on the right about a half-mile down Stream Road.
