Events planned at the Dickinson County Library for February

The Dickinson County Library schedule for February includes:

— MiLibraryQuest: through Tuesday, Feb. 28. All teens in grades six through 12 grab your sword and shield and get ready for an adventure with the winter MiLibraryQuest. This winter’s quest is Dungeons and Dragons themed. Kids can solve riddles, take part in the quest and enter to win a prize from the library. — Capture the Flag: Friday, 6:30 p.m., at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in sixth through 12th grades are invited to a special after-hours event, Capture the Flag! Attendees will be divided into two teams and each team will be tasked to find the perfect hiding spot for their flag. Then, teams will coordinate and execute plans to find and claim their opponents’ flag in victory.

Extra challenges will be in place to create a truly formidable experience. Registered participants must be at the library by 6:25 p.m.; regular library hours end at 6:30 p.m. and the doors will be locked. The program will end at 7:15 p.m. and participants will exit from the library’s main entrance.

Kids may attend on their own and any parent/caregiver wishing to stay is welcome to report with their child to the library’s Multipurpose Room at 6:25 p.m.; parents/caregivers will be provided with a space to wait while their child participates. — All Dickinson County Library sites will be closed Monday for annual staff training. All sites will resume normal hours Tuesday.

— Gamers’ Club, 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township; and 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Calling all video game enthusiasts in third through eighth grades to enjoy some snacks from the Friends of the Library and play a variety of video and board games at this month’s session.

— Registration opens Tuesday for Teen Subscription Boxes available for pickup Monday, March 6, at the main library in Iron Mountain.

This month’s theme is Science Fiction and includes a library book, treats, some other fun items, and a book review form. Both the library book and the box must be returned, but participants may keep all other items. This is currently limited to the first four teens each month. To fill out a registration form, stop in at any library location. A new registration form must be filled out each month to receive the next subscription box.

— Book Club, Tuesday, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults are invited to discuss “The Kitchen Front” by Jennifer Ryan. New members are always welcome to join.

— Solomonson Branch Book Club, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Adults are invited to discuss “Once Upon a Wardrobe” by Patti Callahan. New members are welcome to join.

— Write On! Tuesday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m. at the main library in Iron Mountain.

Adults and teens are invited to join this writers’ group that focuses on providing an encouraging and supportive space for all types of writers. Attendees will be able to make connections, get feedback on current projects, share ideas, learn new tips and tricks and simply enjoy writing. For February’s meeting, bring an item that represents why you became a writer/what inspires you to write. Snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

— Shh…Out! Tuesday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Get your glow on with glow-in-the-dark activities including bingo, Twister, ring toss and more at this month’s meeting. This program is open to all teens in ninth through 12th grades and is a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to just be themselves. No registration is required, and snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
