Wild Rivers Quilt Guild hosts program and workshop on making T-shirt quilts

“How to Make T-Shirt/Memory Quilts” will be presented by Yvonne Clark at the Wild Rivers Quilt Guild meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave. in Florence, Wis.

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Wild Rivers Quilt Guild invites all area quilters to join them for their meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave. at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Highway 101 across from Pat’s Foods at the west end of Florence.

The program for the evening is titled “How to Make T-Shirt/Memory Quilts.” Yvonne Clark will lead the presentation, as they consider Clark the “queen” of T-shirt quiltmaking, as she has made a lot of them.

Clark will guide those who attend through the process of making a T-shirt quilt, explain available products to use, including interfacing and special rulers.

She will also share the known difficulties and troubles one can get into in the making of a T-shirt quilt to steer participants onto a better result. Those who want to make a T-shirt quilt or learn how to do it better should attend this meeting.

T-shirt quilts are often used to commemorate important events in people’s lives such as graduation from high school or college, weddings, special occurrences like a yearly event in which a new shirt is collected every year. They are often given to honor a loved one who has passed; or a more fun event, such as a visit to Disneyland where all the characters have signed their name to a piece of fabric. Family pictures can be printed from a computer onto printable fabric and included in the quilts to personalize it even more.

There will be a hands-on workshop to start making a T-shirt quilt from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The hands-on workshop to start working on your own T-shirt quilt is open to both members and non-members.

The cost for the workshop is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Enrollment checks must be received before the workshop and should be made payable to Wild Rivers Quilt Guild and mailed to W8879 W. Lakeview Drive, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.

Please include an email address on a note with the check and they will email the fabric/supply requirements for the workshop.
