Art reception Thursday

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain Public Arts Advisory, under the direction of Sarah Rice, invites all to attend the second-annual Art Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the historical Braumart Theater.

This year’s artists include Sara Westcott and Tris Bain. Light refreshments will be served and artists will be present to share their work and meet with all who attend.

Westcott is a hobby artist from Vulcan. She found her spark for art back in high school under the direction of Shelly Danielson. Under Danielson’s guidance, she learned to love the mediums of charcoal and ink. Her style is drawn from chiaroscuro, using strong contrast and true dark and light values. Her artwork ranges from portraits to domestic animals to beautiful local landscapes.

Bain is known as a fantasy painter. She has degrees in illustration and comics from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Her work is inspired by the natural world and the fae world. She lives in Iron Mountain with her family.

Later this summer Michaela Rice, a Wisconsin-raised artist known for her landscape oil paintings, will share her artwork from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Sandstone Terrace in downtown Iron Mountain. Her work has been featured at the Art Connective gallery in De Pere, Wis.; landscapes group show; and the online exhibit “Rejected.” She received first place at the Tarlton Theatre annual Art War live speed painting performance.

Her formal training is that of a chef; she uses her artistic nature by day through food, transforming that talent onto canvas by night. Inspired by her favorite views of the sky, she captures the clouds and the light in such a way, that grabs the viewer’s attention and leaves them searching for more. Music will also be shared by Melanie Rose.

Many more events will be highlighted throughout the year.

Any artist who would like to meet other like-minded creative people can reach out on Facebook to Everything Art Upper Peninsula or email Sarah Rice at skrice66@yahoo.com.
