QWINN — The 906 State Employee Retirees Association will host its first meeting of the year at noon Eastern time Wednesday at the Up North Lodge in Gwinn.

All retirees from state of Michigan employment are welcome to attend. The cost for lunch is $20 and reservations are necessary. Those wishing to participate may contact Edgar L. Sommers II at 906-250-5560.

Major presenters for the meeting will include Arva Overton, who represents state retiree health care Medicare Plus program, Nick Hall of Hantz Financial, which offers investment and tax advantages for state retirees and Detective Mike Archocosky of the Marquette City police department, who talk about senior scams and elder abuse.

Other meetings scheduled are Wednesday, July 19 at Gino’s in Hancock and on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Highland Golf Club just west of Escanaba where the annual meeting is conducted.
