History Happy Hour returns to IC Historical Museum

CASPIAN -- History Happy Hour will resume Friday at the Iron County Historical Museum in Caspian.

The museum will host its series once a month from June through September.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the presentation to begin at 6:45 p.m. Attendees are invited to enjoy beverage and socialization in the vintage taproom, Toti's Tavern-- on the museum grounds -- before and after the presentation.

The museum will feature a different topic and presenter each month that will share something interesting facts about the Upper Peninsula.

The presenter will also conduct a questions-and-answer session to discuss the topic with the audience after the program.

There is no admission fee for History Happy Hours.

-- Friday, "Shipwrecked and Rescued: Cars and Crew": Larry Jorgensen has thoroughly researched the most famous of Keweenaw shipwrecks, the City of Bangor. With a cargo of straight-of-the-factory-floor 1927 model Chryslers destined for Duluth, the City of Bangor floundered off the coast of Copper Harbor. Due to its location, the weather and that another shipwrecked at the same time at Point Isabelle, help was slow in coming. This is a tale of Yoopers coming to the rescue of the crew and cargo.

-- Friday, July 28, "90 Years of the CCC Camps": Ironwood-based singer/songwriter Bill Jamerson will present a music and storytelling program about the Civilian Conservation Corps. This year is the 90th anniversary of the founding of the CCC.

-- Friday, Aug. 25, "Meteorites In the U.P.": From the Abram's Planetarium at Michigan State University, Craig Whitford will lead a fascinating lecture about meteorites, including a little slice of Iron County meteorite.

-- Friday, Sept. 15, "Disappearance of Father Menard": The Rev. Rene Menard disappeared mysteriously in 1661 and rumors have implicated Crystal Falls in this unsolved mystery. Dan Truckey will take us on a deep dive into this 362-year-old cold case.
