Storyteller at the library Thursday

Storyteller Jen Strauss will be at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain on Thursday to present her Storyplay program for kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. This event, part of the library’s summer reading program, is sponsored by Dr. Daniel and Christine McMahon.

IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson County Library of Iron Mountain has these activities planned through July:

-- Silent Disco: 6:30 p.m. today at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Tweens and teens are invited to a special after-hours Silent Disco. The reading room will be magically transformed for a fun-filled night of glow-in-the-dark dancing and activities such as Corn Hole, Twister and more. Participants will get wireless headphones to listen to music and snacks will be provided. Participants are asked to arrive by 6:25 p.m., as the library doors will be locked at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by Dr. Dale and Lucy Shampo.

-- Gamers' Club: 4 p.m. Monday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; noon Tuesday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township; and 4 p.m. Monday, July 31, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Calling all video game enthusiasts -- play a variety of video and board games at this monthly program for kids in third through eighth grades.

-- Shh … Out!: 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Get ready for a glow-in- the-dark Just Dance party with the Wii and Nintendo Switch at this month's meeting. Therapy dogs Azul and Maverick will be in attendance at this program, which is open to all teens in grades nine through 12 and is a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to just be themselves. Sponsored by The Zonta Club.

-- Write On!: 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults and teens are invited to join this group that focuses on providing an encouraging and supportive space for all types of writers. This month, materials to create and design Junk Journals, Bullet Journals, or Smashbooks will be provided and members of the group will enjoy filling these pages with outdoor writing times. Sponsored by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club.

-- Kits for a Cause: The Caring House: 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Throughout the month of July, people will be asked to donate items for The Caring House. A list will be available for people to know what items are needed. These items will then be organized and prepared into kits and dropped off to the shelter. Open to teens and adults. Sponsored by Rize.

Children are invited to join story artist Jen Strauss as she will tell our way through stories, sing our way through songs, and play our way through story games. Go home with a friendship bracelet you weave with a partner. Open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Sponsored by Dr. Daniel and Christine McMahon.

-- Musical Monday: 6 p.m. July 31 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults and teens can see the movie "Chicago," listen to music inspired by the "jazz age" while they watch Roxie and Velma, two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn turn incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, but the girls have their own tricks up their sleeves. Popcorn will be provided. Rated PG-13. Sponsored by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club and the Friends of the Library.
