FLORENCE, Wis. — The Wild Rivers Quilt Guild will have its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave. in Florence.
The evening will feature demonstrations in English paper piecing and hand- and machine-sewn applique methods. Kathy Friberg of Florence will give a demonstration on English paper piecing, which involves folding fabric around templates and hand sewing them together.
She uses only Kaffe Fassett Fabrics to make the quilts for very unusual purposes, and attendees are sure to be fascinated by all that she does with this different way to make quilts.
Cheryl Stromberg of Crystal Falls will also show her method of using the common blanket stitch for raw edge applique with both the sewing machine and hand-sewing techniques.

They are currently planning a bus trip to the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show in Madison, Wis., on Friday, Sept. 8. Guests are welcome to ride with them. Registration can be done on their website — go to the It’s a Date page, then click on Register Now button.
The website also has information about their Quilt Show Extravaganza set for Sept. 29-30 at Pine Mountain Ski and Golf Resort in Iron Mountain. Click on “quilt show” tab on the menu for details. They will feature the Sacred Threads Traveling Quilt Exhibit, an experiential exhibit of 39 quilts that expresses the makers’ journey through grief, sorrow, healing and joy. Variations have been traveling around the United States since 1999.
They are accepting entries into a cash quilt contest for new and vintage or antique quilts.
There will be several onsite quilting demonstrations and classes available with noted quilt specialists, including Zentangle Professional Tess Imobersteg from La Crosse, Wis., and Dorene Joyce, a fiber media artist from Fort Worth, Texas. The show will host a craft sale and have a variety of vendors as well.
Those who attend can have their quilts appraised by an American Quilt Society certified textile appraiser for insurance purposes and other reasons. There will be activities going on through each day. Details are available at the quilt show tab.
“You won’t want to miss a minute of this wonderful quilt show coming to Iron Mountain in September. Guests and new members are always welcomed,” said Jackie Lehto of the quilt guild.
