IRON MOUNTAIN -- The International Reggae All Stars will take the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Braumart Theater in Iron Mountain.
This will be the third concert in the Midwest Music Series coming to Iron Mountain by Hometeam Productions and The Braumart.
With band members from several parts of Jamaica, Trinidad, Venezuela and Ghana, International Reggae All Stars truly are a global band.
Featuring one of today's top reggae vocalist, Kingston native Lynval "Golden Voice" Jackson, the All Stars play reggae, dancehall and all the Bob Marley classics.
Rounding out the band is Charles "Chilly" Petrus, guitarist Tenn "Jah-Bee" Bennett, Brian Alexis, bassist Sei "Bingo" Kpolar and percussionist Tony Paul.
On the band's steady sound, Jackson calls their particular blend of rhythm and blues, calypso, reggae and afrobeat "Lover's Rock."
The All Stars emphasize their own take on reggae standards. "We improvise, put our own color into it, decorate it," Bennett said. "You're got to get a different flavor every time you play."
Though the Midwest and reggae are not culturally synonymous, Jackson laughs off the typical Midwestern diversity. "We've gone to places where the band is the only set of black people. It's actually fun -- people embrace you," said Jackson.
