Lori Guy retires after 42 years of VA service

Nurse at IM responsible for more than 200,000 blood draws

LORI GUY

IRON MOUNTAIN — After 42 years of federal service, Lori Guy of Kingsford retired from the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain on July 29.

Guy graduated from Kingsford High School and then attended Bay College where she earned a certificate in nursing.

She began her VA career on July 12, 1981, at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center and watched the hospital grow and transition from a mostly inpatient to a primarily outpatient facility. She worked in various roles during her tenure starting as a licensed practical nurse and moving through administrative positions, pharmacy, EKG, and dialysis before becoming a staple in the outpatient lab in 1996.

Since joining the lab, Guy has been responsible for more than 200,000 blood draws and impacted the lives of countless veterans with her kindness and willingness to help.

While Guy may be retiring from the medical center, she is not done contributing. She plans to continue working with students at Bay College West in Iron Mountain to teach blood draws and work at the local bowling alley part-time. She also enjoys donating her time to assist the local Special Olympics.

Starting at $3.50/week.
