UW-Madison announces 2023 spring graduates

MADISON, Wis. — A total of 8,625 students received degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison on May 12-13.

There were two live ceremonies, one for undergraduates at Camp Randall and one for all graduate degree candidates at the Kohl Center. Graduating were 6,225 undergraduate students, 1,487 master’s degree students and 913 doctoral candidates.

Keynote speaker Eric H. Holder Jr., the third-longest-serving U.S. attorney general in the country’s history and the father of a Badger alumna, praised graduates for grasping the most urgent issues facing America.

Local students receiving degrees include:

Florence, Wis. — Ellie Valentine, School of Pharmacy, doctor of pharmacy;

Iron Mountain — Cecilia Berutti, College of Letters and Science, bachelor of science in biology; Haley Gabriel, College of Letters and Science, bachelor of arts in political science, with distinction.

KENOSHA, Wis. — Balen Mautone of Iron Mountain has been named to the Carthage College dean’s list for the spring 2023 term.

Dean’s list honors are accorded to Carthage students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 12 letter-graded credits in a given semester.

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Kyle Challancin of Felch Township graduated from University of Vermont with a bachelor’s in linguistics and English.

UVM President Suresh Garimella conferred degrees on an estimated 3,383 graduates at the university’s 222nd commencement ceremony.

Speaking on the spirit of excellence, the Honorable Sethuraman Panchanathan, director of the U.S. National Science Foundation, delivered the keynote address.

The ceremony was especially meaningful for Garimella, who began his tenure at UVM in 2019 as the class of 2023 was beginning their first year.

MENOMONIE, Wis. — Devin Dumke of Florence, Wis., graduated in December 2022 from University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis., with a bachelor of science degree in computer and electrical engineering.

The university graduated a total of 594 students, with 473 undergraduate and 121 graduate school students last winter.

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Austin Tripp of Niagara, Wis., received his bachelor of science degree in exercise and sport science, pre-professional track at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Jenna Springer of Florence, Wis., an environmental engineering major, announces its dean’s list, honoring those full-time students who earned high honors in the spring 2023 semester the University of Wisconsin-Platteville

College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture and the College of Liberal Arts and Education require grade-point averages of 3.75 and above for dean’s list honors, while the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science requires students to reach at least a 3.50.

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s 149th spring commencement — with a pair of ceremonies May 13 — recognized the accomplishments of students from all of its campuses in Fond du Lac, Fox Cities and Oshkosh.

Nearly 1,300 students earned bachelor’s, master’s, associate and doctoral degrees.

Local students who received degrees include:

Florence, Wis. — Cassandra Gollakner, College of Nursing, doctor of nursing practice, BSN to DNP, FNP, primary care;

Niagara, Wis. — Christine Stec, College of Business Administration, master of business administration, business administration.

MINNEAPOLIS — William J. Strand of Iron Mountain, a junior in the, College of Education/Human Development, has been named to the 2023 spring semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, the university announced today.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade-point average.

DECORAH, Iowa — William Coffey of Kingsford was named to Luther College dean’s list for the 2023 spring semester. To be named to the dean’s list, Coffey had to earn a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades.

IRVING, Texas — Luke Klein of Iron Mountain was named to the spring 2023 dean’s list at the University of Dallas for earning a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Klein is a senior mathematics major.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has listed the undergraduate students receiving semester honors for spring 2023 semester academic achievement.

Students who earn a 4.0 grade-point average, which represents all “A” grades, receive highest honors. High honors go to students earning 3.99 to 3.75 GPA. Honors are given to students earning 3.74 to 3.50 GPA.

All were full-time students in the spring term, earning 12 or more credits of graded coursework. This list includes students attending all UW-Green Bay campuses, in Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan.

Local students include:

Caspian — Alyssa Dominici, high honors;

Florence, Wis. — Hunter McLain, honors; Anne Nanninga, honors; Kayla Walters, honors;

Iron Mountain — Emily Nelson, highest honors;

Iron River — Lucas Isaacson, honors; Courtney Reitmeyer, highest honors

Kingsford — Ella Rovedo, honors;

Niagara, Wis. — Madison Bjorkman, high honors;

Norway — Katlyn Hosking, honors; Alexis Lusardi, highest honors;

Vulcan — Cadeance Lindsley, honors.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Savannah Vassar of Florence, Wis., received her bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire during commencement ceremonies in May.

MEQUON, Wis. — Concordia University Wisconsin officials have released the spring honors list for the 2022-23 academic year. To be eligible for the honor, students must achieve a minimum 3.60 grade-point average and complete at least 12 undergraduate credits.

Local students named to the list include:

Florence, Wis. — Paige Uren, freshman, rehabilitation science, regular;

Vulcan — Carson Lagina, senior, actuarial science.
