IRON MOUNTAIN -- The First Methodist Women will host their Cornish Market from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church, 106 Fourth St. near the Hardee's restaurant in Iron Mountain.
The tradition honors the Cornish founders of the church, dating back to the 1900s when miners were brought to the area from Cornwall, England, to share their expertise in deep-pit mining.
Once settled, the miners sent for their families -- and soon the church was built. These recipes have been passed through the generations of the church.
Members have been busy making mini-pasties for the Cornish menu, as well as saffron buns, seedy buns, Cousin Jack cookies, potato cake and jelly tarts.
In addition, other homemade baked goods will include cookies, bars, pies, breads and snack mixes.
All items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Cornish Cafe also will offer one-crust apple pie with scalded cream served on site with coffee and tea.
