IRON MOUNTAIN -- Eric Jensen, an exploration geologist, was the guest speaker for a recent General Federation of Women's Club luncheon meeting at Pine Grove Country Club. His topic was "How the Upper Peninsula was Formed."
Jensen was born in northeastern Wisconsin and his family is originally from Niagara, Wis. They have maintained residences in the Florence, Wis., area for many years. He studied geology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., and attended graduate school at Stanford University and the University of Arizona, where he received his Ph.D in geosciences.
After working in mines early in his professional career, he switched to an exploration focus and has been working as an exploration geologist for nearly 30 years. This has involved travel to more than 100 countries and every continent with the exception of Antarctica.
He currently serves as the general manager of exploration for EMX Royalty Corporation, a publicly traded company specializing in exploration and mining royalties.
He lives at a cabin and cottage at Lake Emily and as a hobby studies geology and mining history of the area around Florence and Iron Mountain.
