CRYSTAL FALLS -- Christmas came early to the Friends of the Crystal Falls District Community Library this year. They have been selected as the Crystal Falls area recipient for funds generated by the CoVantage Cares Giving Tuesday fundraiser. This means the credit union will match any dollar donated locally to the campaign from Nov. 28 to Dec. 12.
The friends have decided to call their fundraising campaign "15 Days of CoVantage Cares with the Crystal Falls Library." They have created 15 full days of opportunities for patrons to connect, learn, socialize, grow and give at the library. A donation jar will be at all of these events. Patrons who are writing checks should note that in order for the donation to be matched, it must be written to CoVantage Cares, and in the memo line indicate "Friends of the CF Library."
Upcoming events at the library include:
-- Tuesday, Nov. 28: Library-themed merchandise will be available for Christmas gifts. There will be T-shirts, hoodies and mugs for sale. The Library Club, made up of third- to fifth-graders students, created some library-themed Christmas card packages for sale. The Terrific Tales for Tweens and the Young Adult Book Club made some library-themed notecards for sale also. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-- Wednesday, Nov. 29: Ladies Night Out in Crystal Falls. Twisted Twig, Ben Franklin, Pixel, Winks Woods, The Crystal Trading Company, and the library will be open until 8 p.m. for holiday shopping. The library will have The Webber Boys, a local indie/rock/blues band playing from 6 to 8 p.m. The friends will have a gift-wrapping station from 5 to 8 p.m.; shoppers can bring purchases to be wrapped while they sit and listen to the band.
-- Thursday, Nov. 30: The friends will have a used book sale beginning at 9 a.m. that will run through Friday, Dec. 9. There will also be a craft class at 6 p.m. and this time they are making a Mr. and Mrs. Claus Laundry Garland. -- Friday, Dec. 1: At 6 p.m., head to the Crystal Theatre to watch the holiday classic "Elf." This event is funded by Ryan O'Grady, the Crystal Theatre and the Friends of the Library. Everyone will get a free soda and small popcorn, courtesy of O'Grady and Edward Jones.
-- Saturday, Dec. 2: There will be a Friends of the Crystal Falls Library fundraiser from noon to 8 p.m. at the Alpha Brewery. The brewery will be releasing a new beer for the occasion -- Well Read, a red ale. There will be basket raffles, a Yeti cooler raffle, and a 50-50 drawing. There will be a bake sale, too. Logan's Place will provide soup and sandwiches for purchase.
-- Sunday, Dec. 3: The library will host a Christmas Concert at 1 p.m. The headliners are the ever-popular, easy-listening duo The Foucault Brothers. The pre-show will feature piano music from several piano students.
-- Monday, Dec. 4: Come to the library at 9 a.m. and learn how to crochet a Christmas tree ornament. Beginners are welcome.
-- Tuesday, Dec. 5: At 9 a.m., the library will teach how to knit a scarf for a favorite teddy bear. Those who would like to knit a scarf for a teddy that will be donated to the Caring House can do that, too. The Friends of the Library will provide the bears.
-- Wednesday, Dec. 6: The friends will host a Christmas Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge at 5 p.m. The winning group will receive a prize.
-- Thursday, Dec. 7: Anthony Kurtz will run a Holiday Escape Room. Escape Rooms will be at 5 and 6 p.m. Registration is required by calling 906-875-3344 or emailing Gathu at egathu@crystalfallslibrary.org.
-- Friday, Dec. 8: The friends will host a Bowling for Books event from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crystal Lanes. All children who come to bowl will get a free Christmas-themed book. Crystal Lanes generously will provide a portion of the lane and shoe rental to the Friends of the Library.
-- Saturday, Dec. 9: This will be a two-events day. A Christmas Story Hour is set for 10 a.m. All children are invited to hear some Christmas stories and make a craft. Juice and snacks will be available.
From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the friends will host the fifth-annual Authorpalooza. Local authors Anne Miller (romance/drama), Janet Rohde (mystery), Wade Walker (action/adventure), Keith R. Huotari (non-fiction history), Lynne Lillge (picture books) and Nikki Mitchell (tween fantasy) will sell copies of their books at the library. Books make great Christmas gifts.
-- Sunday, Dec. 10: At 1 p.m., the friends will host a cookie walk at the library. Friends plan to make several batches of cookies that can be purchased by the pound.
-- Monday, Dec. 11: Stay home and read. Rest and prepare for the holidays.
-- Tuesday, Dec. 12: The friends at 1 p.m. will deliver teddy bears with knitted scarves and holiday no-sew blankets made by patrons to the Caring House.
Those who choose to by-pass these activities but would like to donate can bring cash to the library from Nov. 28 through Dec. 12.
