Story shared of great-grandson’s recovery

Candy Buchcuski, LEFT, shared a personal story Monday with the members of Golden K. At right is Kathy Jo Anderson, Golden K chairperson.

KINGSFORD — Monday found the Golden K seniors scurrying through the crisp morning. They were searching for a warm cup of coffee to help shake off the chill.

Chairperson Kathy Jo Anderson hurriedly rang the bell and brought the group to their feet. Continuing this nostalgic momentum, Alyce Derwinski nimbly sat at the piano enlisting the help of Bill Roberts to lead the singing. It was a repertoire of songs sending fall on its way. “Over The River And Through The Woods” accompanied “Shine On Harvest Moon” and “Somebody Else is Taking my Place.” Everything indicated that winter is fast approaching.

Guests welcomed included RSVP Director Kathy Arnold and Orice Walter’s daughter, Christy Wolff. Sharon Scholke happily picked winnings from the 50-50 drawing. Happy Dollar thoughts included enjoyable visits and time with family like Wendy Mulka, who will welcome five sons for Thanksgiving. There would be major cooking going in that home for Thanksgiving. Dan Pedo gave thumbs up for the Braumart movie “Journey to Bethlehem.” Candy Buchcuski expressed great joy at having her great-grandson home and on the road to good health.

Treasurer Kirk Olson reminded members of the Christmas Party for Children with Special Needs set for Dec. 11. All hands need to be on deck for that event. There will be a Christmas Party for Golden K members and guests later the same evening. It will include a catered meal and entertainment by Mark Young.

The scheduled Monday program was changed due to unforeseen difficulties. The seniors put the morning into productive organizational efforts. Bill Roberts went over the details of the Special Needs Christmas plans. Santa and his helpers have a lot of work ahead. A committee for kitchen duty was established and there will be gift bags to fill. Decorative blankets are donated by people providing community service through the sheriff’s department. There will be entertainment and Santa always sets aside special time just for the kids. Brett Calcari will emcee the ceremonies.

Candy Buchcuski shared a personal story that left the group stunned, amazed, and thankful for the outcome. Her great grandson, Ezra, had a fall that caused a life-threatening injury, including seizures. One minute he was a happy youngster, laughing and playing and in an instant was being rushed to the hospital. From the local hospital, he was flown to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Through days of waiting and praying, he balanced between life and death. With the excellent help from first responders, the local hospital, the ambulance and the staff in Milwaukee, Ezra is now home. He is becoming stronger and showing no signs of aftereffects from this trauma.

Candy appreciates the love and support from the community. Prayers, emotional support, encouragement and financial assistance made a difference. Ezra and his family are grateful for the miracle healing of their son.

Kathy Jo’s thought for the day was a saying attributed to Buddha. “Let’s rise up and be thankful. For if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little. And if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick. If we got sick, at least we didn’t die. Let’s all be thankful.”

Happy Thanksgiving to all. There are always things to be thankful for. Miracles do happen.

Golden K will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, with Lynn Mueller as speaker. Come and see what she has planned for your wellbeing.
