IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain-Kingsford General Federation of Women’s Clubs has announced its annual “old fashion” Claxton Fruit Cake fundraiser.

The Claxton Bakery of Claxton, Ga., has been making these world-famous treats since 1910.

The local Women’s Club has been selling the fruit cakes as a fundraiser for the club since the 1950s. All money raised is used for the many charities that they support year round.

Several club members can fondly remember when their mothers and grandmothers who were club members would serve this fruit cake at Christmas time.

“This is a historic event for the club,” GFWC member Pam Edens said.

This year, the fruit cakes are available at O.M.GIGI Boutique on Hughitt Street in Iron Mountain and at the Ultimate Bride in Norway during regular business hours.

Cost is $12 for a – pound fruit cake in either light or dark. For more information, contact project chairwoman Toni Lori at 906-221-1055.
