MARQUETTE -- The Lake Superior Chapter of Finlandia Foundation National will have its annual "Pikkujoulu," or Little Christmas Party, on Saturday, Dec. 16.
The party begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time in Magnuson Hall of Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic St. in Marquette.
The program will include discussion about Christmas as it is celebrated in Finland.
And because the Finnish Independence Day occurred on Dec. 6, Chapter president Ron Hill will relay how Finland celebrated that important day 106 years after 1917.
All are welcome. There will be refreshments, including homemade cardamom coffee bread "pulla" and Finnish cheese "juusto." There will be door prizes and lots of time for coffee and conversation.
Entertainment will feature Tanja Stanaway singing and leading the group in some Finnish Christmas carols, along with Oscar Forsman on his accordion and Howard Aalto, who plays a six-sided harmonica.
The chapter asks that those who attend bring with them one non-perishable food item, which will be given to Messiah Church to pass on to the local food bank.
It will be possible to renew or start memberships in the FFN Lake Superior Chapter at this meeting. Membership is $10 per person.
