‘The Wacky Wizard of Oz’ to be presented in Florence

FLORENCE, Wis. -- The Florence County School District Drama Department will present the "The Wacky Wizard of Oz," a full-length comedic adaptation of the L. Frank Baum classic by Patrick Dorn produced by special arrangement with Brooklyn Publishers LLC.
Performances will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Friday, Feb. 9, and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the Florence County Middle/High School auditorium. Tickets are $3 for ages 10 and older and free for anyone younger than 10. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Students from fifth through 12th grade -- 20 different actors and actresses and three backstage crew members -- are taking part in this production under the direction of Bri Knox and Jessica Klumpp.
When a twister carries Dorothy and dog Toto to the Land of Oz, the result is … wacky. Dorothy steps out in her Ruby Crocs and onto a yellow-bricked comical adventure. Encouraged by a bunch of silly Munchkins, a brainy Scarecrow, tender-hearted Tin Man and plucky Cowardly Lion, Dorothy seeks out the not- too-terribly Terrible Wizard of Oz and confronts the epically aqua-phobic Wicked Witch of the West. This fast, funny and contemporary adaption of the "Wizard of Oz" is filled with jokes, gags, puns and surprises.
